REDUCING YOUR TRAVEL FOOTPRINT

It’s a conflict. We love to travel and explore. And we know that’s not always the best choice for the environment. At Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters we have always tried to be mindful of this delicate balance but this year we are stepping up our game and making even more choices that will contribute towards ‘solutions’ to this global issue.

As a start, did you know that there are many ways you can offset your travel footprint? We’ve highlighted a few that are easily achievable but there are many more ways you can help, and we encourage you to find the ones that fit your travel style best and implement them.

Book non-stop flights. When you travel by plane, one way you can reduce your emissions is by booking the most direct route to your destination.

Pack light. The heavier your luggage, the more fuel it takes to transport it by plane, bus, car, or train.  Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters can help you achieve this with long-lasting packing tools and instruction.

Eat local. First of all, this is the most delicious way to experience a new place. It also reduces the carbon footprint of your meal and provides you the freshest food available.

Save leftovers or don’t order so much food. We know you want to try everything on the menu, so bring reusable containers and take those leftovers back to your hotel room for a midnight snack.

Turn off the lights. That’s at home before you leave and at your hotel, rental house, or resort. Unplug everything you can every time you leave, and you’ll conserve energy when you don’t need it any way. Lower the a/c at home for the length of your vacation and lower the a/c wherever you are staying when you aren’t in the room.

Be heard through your choices. By making specific choices based on your values you can let travel suppliers know that your dollars are going to businesses that invest in sustainable practices. These practices can be as simple as sourcing local products or utilizing renewable energy sources.

Seek out eco-centric experiences. There are conservation areas, local projects, and all sorts of cool places to visit to learn about the ecology of an area. In seeking these experiences out, you will learn about the local environmental needs, support those efforts through your tourism dollars, and often encounter something unique and beautiful.
