BEST SAFARI DUFFEL

Do you have an African safari on your travel bucket list? If this safari includes a Kenyan mobile camp, like Nkorombo (for the Great Migration) or a visit to the swollen Okavango Delta in Botswana (at a water based lodge) packing requires some thoughtful planning.

To access many of these special and remote places it’s likely you’ll fly in via small bush plane, private charter aircraft (groomed dirt runway) or maybe helicopter. And, when there’s water involved you may also get to-and-fro via canoe or boat. The total weight allowance per person for this type of transportation is typically 33lbs.

Lightweight is the name of the game as the maximum 33lbs includes all checked and carry-on items in a soft-sided bag (no wheels or hardware). All one needs on a safari is a few changes of clothes, an extra pair of shoes to wear in the evenings around the fire at dinner, a bathing suit, a handful of personal items, binoculars and a camera.

Eagle Creek’s No Matter What Flashpoint Duffel is the perfect safari bag and the 2014 design is made of durable weather-resistant bi-tech fabric with covered zippers. The medium sized bag is lightweight (less than 2lbs), spacious (3600 cubic inches of volume) and when not in use tucks into its own small carry bag. The comfortable handles make transporting a breeze however there is also an add-on strap which converts the duffel into an easy-to-carry backpack.

The medium duffel suits safari and adventure travel perfectly however the No Matter What Duffel is also available in small, large and extra-large. Stop by the store to check them out in person.

Now that you’ve got the bag it’s time to plan that once-in-a-lifetime safari vacation! –Rochelle, July 2014
