Getting Away Without Going Away

Celebrating 20 years of marriage at the historic Clifton

I just celebrated my 20^th wedding anniversary on a romantic, one-night getaway at The Clifton, in Keswick, which is literally 15 minutes from my home. I know it seems like my husband and I should have traveled farther away considering that getting people out of the state is the focus of my work, however, the timing just wasn’t working for us.

That said, 20 years of marriage is a pretty big milestone and I still wanted to get away. I wanted it to feel special. It just had to be close to home.

It was so easy to pack an overnight bag in less than 10 minutes, kiss my kids and dog goodbye, and cruise off toward the rolling hills of Keswick- that I’d definitely do it again. All the benefits of getting away without the stressors of buttoning everything up for any period of time.

Within moments of our arrival at The Clifton we were greeted by Maggie, The Clifton’s Assistant GM, and after a quick tour of the Inn, were shown to our room. All in, we were settled and enjoying some complimentary anniversary champagne within 30 minutes of leaving home.

A visit to The Clifton Inn is an elevated escape – with gorgeous grounds, lovely in-room amenities, fabulous food and drink, and an attentive level of service that makes you feel special. It’s easy to forget what a beautiful destination Charlottesville is and that we have access to places that can feel transportive-  just the way we love to feel when we travel across the country, or overseas…the way we feel when we go on vacation.
