WOODLOCH: Bygone Magic on Lake Teedyuskung

Several summers ago, my extended family gathered at Woodloch Resort, in Hawley, Pennsylvania to celebrate our parent’s 50th wedding anniversary (about a 6.5 hour drive from Charlottesville). While you can read about the all-inclusive, family-focused resort on their website (which I encourage you to do), I prefer to share a few moments of magic from that special week.

• The go-carts and the shooting range were huge draws for the boys and we spent a lot of time zipping round and round the track at the most reckless of speeds. Parents as passengers, kids as drivers.
• The resort has a lot of organized events and competitions, particularly focused on water activities. Watching the kids participate in the lakefront water slide competition was my favorite, but I think they may have preferred the ‘Olympic’ competition in the large outdoor pool with all the inflatable obstacles.
• Every meal was served in a huge dining room with a view of the lake, and we had the same table and waiter each day. This allowed for lots of shared family time without dishes to clean- and, the desserts were amazing. We even had a private room one night for a special anniversary celebration.
• My husband taught my niece to play volleyball; my sisters and I got on the lake to paddleboard (a few moments of zen); we spent one morning off-site at the gorgeous resort spa; and, in one of the nightly shows my son was called on stage to help the magician. Which was hugely magical, and hilarious as well!

Did I mention, no dishes to clean……?
