LODGE TO LODGE IN COSTA RICA

Thought I’d better get a few of our trip high points down before the gray cells fade. Roughly, here’s how it went:

  • Our room the first night at the Peace Lodge featured a large stone fireplace, hot tub, waterfall in the shower, canopy bed, balcony with a hammock (and a fantastic view), Jacuzzi tub
  • First dinner in Costa Rica – fantastic!
  • Zip lining thru the tropical forest canopy! Driven up the mountain and nine zip line stages later, including one of 1000 feet over a river, were at the bottom of the mountain.
  • The REAL adventure begins! Driven by Land Rover to the domestic terminal in San Jose for the Sansa airline flight to Drake Bay. The plane is a single-engine, 12-seater that rattled down the strip and finally got airborne.
  • Over the next three days, we did a Mangrove Tour, hiked the Corcovado National Park with a guide, swam under a waterfall, went kayaking twice, and went on the “Bug Lady Tour”.
  • Saw crocodiles, several kinds of monkeys, sloths, dolphins, bats, myriad birds and waterfowl, flying mackerel, frogs, spiders, coatis (cousin to a raccoon), snakes, and more that I can’t remember. One final note: The people of Costa Rica are beautiful and our guides, each and every one, were amazing. They are genuinely concerned for the ecology of their country, are very proud of the part each is playing in protecting the environment. They were caring, knowledgeable, articulate, witty, and downright charming!

In case you didn’t pick up on it, we had a wonderful time! -Bob & Charlotte, Costa Rica, February 2014
