A CONVERSATION WITH RODNEY TOMLIN OF VICTORINOX SWISS ARMY

Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters has been a retailer of Victorinox Swiss Army luggage for over 10 years. We recently reached out to Rodney Tomlin, National Accounts Manager and our sales representative, to get his take on what to look for in a quality piece of luggage and what makes Victorinox’s newest collection, CONNEX, a great choice.

YOU HAVE BEEN WITH VICTORINOX SWISS ARMY FOR OVER 15 YEARS AND THE LUGGAGE INDUSTRY FOR OVER 32 YEARS, WHAT CONTINUES TO INSPIRE YOU ABOUT THE BRAND?

What inspires me the most is the quality and innovation of the brand. Our attention to detail and focus on durability allows us to make product not only based on how consumer’s travel but how they want to travel.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL SETS THE NEW CONNEX COLLECTION APART FROM OTHERS ON THE MARKET?

I like to call it the quality box with wheels. It’s simple packing, without a lot of bells and whistles. The case is deep, and the frame is the toughest in the market.

FOR OUR CUSTOMERS CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A NEW PIECE OF LUGGAGE, WHAT’S YOUR BEST ADVICE?

The 3 most important items on any suitcase are the ones that the airlines can damage. Wheels, handles, and zippers. Victorinox uses nothing but Hinomoto wheels (a Japanese company that makes the best wheels for our industry). Trolley handles should be made with good quality aluminum handles – those by Victorinox have 3 heights. Lastly, the best zippers are YKK. All of our zippers are self-healing racquet coil zippers.
