Let’s face it, every kid wants to be a cowboy. They want cowboy boots and a cowboy hat, a faithful horse and space to sleep under the star by a campfire.  If this describes your kids and you are looking for a great family vacation, look no further than San Antonio Texas, a place dear to my heart because that’s where I’m from.

San Antonio has a great climate, unique sights, fabulous food, an honest-to-goodness cowboy on every corner, and you don’t need a passport to get there.

If you have younger children, stay at The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa, the graceful quintessential Texas Hill Country inn.  When my children were little, I was always looking for a vacation experience that was fun for both kids and parents.  The Hill Country Hyatt is the perfect spot with its on-site 5-acre waterpark, FlowRider wave machine, nature and biking trails and a camp for kids (where they’ll have so much fun that they don’t miss Mom and Dad – who can then enjoy sipping a margarita by the pool or playing golf on the championship golf course).  In addition, Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas are two popular amusement parks that are close by.

This summer was the first summer that I have gone home to San Antonio with both of my grown children.  Traveling with older kids is a quite different from traveling with little people.  They like to sleep late and stay out late so downtown San Antonio is the place to be.  Stay at the Omni La Mansion del Rio Hotel on the San Antonio Riverwalk where young adults can stroll along the Paseo del Rio and have handy access to hotels, nightclubs, theatres, restaurants, galleries and shops to engage their more mature and multi-faceted interests.

Other Downtown attractions within walking distance from the hotel for your teens include The Alamo and El Mercado, the Mexican Marketplace and Paris Hatters, the oldest retail establishment in downtown San Antonio where everyone in the know goes for their Stetson hats and Tony Llama boots.
