Bonny, Rex and Zeke

There’s something special about bringing a dog to work. I like having a constant reminder that the simplest pleasures in life are often right there in front of us. I loved seeing the sweet gaze of my golden retriever Bonny as I toiled away to get Peace Frogs Travel off the ground from 1993-1997- when she passed at the ripe old age of 16. She was always the best shoulder to cry on and she’d been a loving presence in my life since I was a child.

I didn’t wait too long to adopt my next furry friend and in late ’97 I brought home Zeke, a 6-month old border collie mix who turned out to be incredibly bright, oddly wise, and frankly, pretty darn amazing. Zeke loved coming to work at Peace Frogs Travel and really felt like he had a job to accomplish. While I’m pretty sure he thought that job was to nip at the heels of clients as they walked in the door and herd them towards the travel agency it was actually to be my best buddy and to keep me sane through some crazy times.

Being forced to take the dog out for a walk sometimes equals having to take a minute, gain a little perspective, and get a grip- all things you need to be reminded of frequently when you run a business.

Today, I am pleased to announce that I have a new SPCA puppy to share. ‘Rex’, officially ‘Captain Rex’ since my boys wanted a dog named after a Star Wars character, is the combination of a bolt of lightning and a hibernating bear- which makes for the ideal shop dog.  Rex hasn’t destroyed any luggage or peed on anyone’s rug so all things are copacetic so far. And though he’s no supermodel, we think the ‘new guy’ is pretty darn handsome. We welcome all lovers of dogs and travel to come in, check out the store, and take Rex for a walk.
