Rochelle planning a trip

When Julie asked me to write for this blog I found myself a bit overwhelmed. So many aspects of travel have tickled my fancy over the years but now I’m back working in the industry, as travel concierge at Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters. The most meaningful tidbits I have to offer are those that I see, with my ‘fresh eyes’, of how the travel industry has morphed since I was working in it 20 years ago.As the first point of contact when people call our office, I field all sorts of questions. With new clients I often sense a certain amount of hesitation. They seem to wonder why they should go through a travel consultant when they could make their own travel arrangements.
My answer shows my age because when I first worked in the travel industry- air, hotel, car, tour and cruise websites with virtual tours and the ability to book on-line were not available. People relied on their travel agent for travel recommendations and to make their travel bookings for them. Today travel consultants play an even more important role in helping clients narrow down their choices and make smart decisions- because with increased accessibility (aka the internet) comes a whole lot more options to consider.
While working with the travel consultants at Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters I have seen firsthand the way each consultant can help a client fine tune their available choices by relying on years of personal travel experience in addition to years of client feedback. In addition, the consultants have developed strong relationships with trusted travel vendors. But perhaps even more important than those points is that everyone at Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters truly cares about the outcome of our work – which is typically a fabulous vacation – and that can make the biggest difference of all.
