In retrospect, I realized that this year I will have visited destinations in which I’m familiar—places that I’ve been before. I never considered myself to be a repeater. “There’s an entire planet out there to be discovered and explored,” I said to myself. “So why do I want to go back?” The short answer:  it’s comfortable and easy and relaxing. During the first half of this year our primary focus at Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters was geared towards to our move to The Millmont Shops. A challenging, exciting, rewarding and exhausting experience pocketed with a weekend in NYC, a family visit to Atlanta and a re-do of one of my favorite local places, Chesley Creek Cottages in Dyke, Virginia.

Several weeks after our Peace Frogs Travel move, my husband and I embarked on a major kitchen renovation—phase II of my year. Next week we’re heading to Sandals Royal Bahamian on Cable Beach in Nassau, Bahamas to relax and be pampered. Since our visit two years ago, this resort has undergone a major renovation so not only will it be a great opportunity to see the upgrades in person, but this will be a vacation where nearly everything is included. Few decisions will be required, which is exactly what I need right now. Over the Christmas/New Year’s holiday we’ll be spending time with family and friends on St. Simon’s Island, Cumberland Island and a cabin in the mountains near Blowing Rock. All places I love, am comfortable getting to, and will be nearly effortless.

So, without realizing it, I chose to vacation this year in places that are uncomplicated and satisfying. Next year, maybe Peru or Turkey or Sicily. This year it’s time to rest the body and renew the soul. It just goes to prove that each and every vacation can serve a different purpose—just when you need it.
