“In Saint Maarten we headed to Maho Beach for the majority of the day. The reason that we wanted to go there was not that it’s a spectacular beach, but rather the fact that the Princess Juliana Airport is located there, with the main runway starting literally just across the street from the beach. Which means that as you sit there on the beach there are jumbo jets landing that pass maybe 100-200 feet above you. Ever seen the pictures that look like a 747 has been photoshopped into a beach scene? This is that place! It was unreal and, quite frankly, AWESOME!! We actually spent most of the time at a restaurant off to the side listening to the air traffic control radio and watching the planes land. The restaurant has a surfboard with the bigger jets’ arrival times listed. This was definitely one of the highlights of the trip!” – Curtis and Renee, 10th Anniversary cruise aboard the Norwegian Epic, January 2012.
