2. A marked change, as in appearance or character, usually for the better.
For me, travel is all about transformation. Some trips are profound and ever changing- those are the trips that bring me into a new understanding of a place or people which alters who I am at my core. Other trips are all about relaxation and reconnection- just the kind of trip I’m planning in July after I spend the next two months moving my business. And to be clear, all trips are good.
At the end of this month, Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters is making a very small (but very transformative) trip up the street, to our new location at The Millmont Shops. It’s hard to believe that I’ve spent more time working within these four walls at Barracks Road Shopping Center than doing anything else in my life – but as good as the last 19 years have been I am ready for a change in atmosphere. And it does feel as though we are moving to another planet – even though The Millmont Shops are under a ¼ mile away.
To be clear, this transformation is mostly a physical one. Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters is not planning to change what we do or how we do it (meaning we will still give exceptional service, great travel advice, and worthwhile products). The new location represents a change to a cleaner, more modern design- where the travel products we sell and the people who sell them can really shine. Where the travel consultants have a little more space to spread out our maps and share our passion with clients.
Our biggest challenge in creating this new space from an empty box was to create a place that is both public and commercially suited while housing semi-private meeting space for clients who come in and out to plan their trips. Fortunately, I knew just the guys to help me out because their design aesthetic suits my taste and they are willing to think outside ‘the box’. The ‘jenga structure’ conceived by Wolf|Ackerman Architects and the craftsmanship of Reveal Builders has made this project possible.
For me, the transformation to The Millmont Shops and our new space has been a labor of love for my business, my co-workers, my clients, and my family. Every time I step foot into the new space something has been added, finished or changed and watching it transform and come to life is surely one of the best ‘trips’ I’ve ever taken.
